Thanks to all that attended the Yellow Jacket tournament on the weekend. It made out to be a very busy yet entertaining day! Poomse Ranking Day that is held on Sunday 26 February 2012 at Factor10 Martial Arts Shop 17/104 Gympie Road Strathpine. The ranking day goes from 9am to 3pm. This is an Oceania Taekwondo Union (OTU) and Sports Taekwondo Australia (STA) event run as part of the Queensland Poomse judge development program being run across that weekend. Selected poomse athletes will be attend the ranking event, being hosted at the Factor10 Strathpine facilities, and be judged by national and international level judges [...]

A Factor10 Team of Poomse and Sparring athletes will be contesting gold at the New Zealand Open from 17 – 18 March 2012.
The team consists of coaches, assistant coaches, team manager, athletes and parents. This is a great development opportunity for nominated members from the Factor10 Talent Identification Program.
The TID team members train on Tuesdays and Fridays in their respective disciplines of Poomse and Sparring.

OTU Poomse Judge Course Fri 24 – Sun 26 Feb

The Oceania Taekwondo Union and Sports Taekwondo Australia are hosting a Poomse Judge course from Friday 24 to Sunday 26 February 2012. This course is to prepare Poomse Judges to accredit them to judge at local, state and national Poomse competition events. Friday night is from 6.00 to 9.00pm and Saturday is from 8am to 5pm.
The Course is being held at Sports House Milton (Corner Castlemaine and Caxton Streets) and promises to be an extraordinary development opportunity for Queensland and interstate/internaitonal Poomse [...]
The Strategic Science In Taekwondo Sparring
Looking from the outside, taekwondo sparring may look like random kicks and punches thrown ruthlessly with the objective of injuring the opponent.
But from the inside, a sparring match is like a chess game.
In chess, you cannot win a game by unthinkingly moving around the pieces anymore than one could win a sparring match by involuntarily throwing techniques.
Strategy. The prerequisite to chess as well as to taekwondo sparring.

Taekwondo Is Not Taekwondo Without Its Kicks
You have probably heard this over and over again but you are going to hear it again now, Taekwondo is known for its kicks.
The kicks used in Taekwondo sparring are more striking than in any other martial art. Even though the kicks in poomse are simpler than the ones used in sparring, they can be equally as impressive if executed properly.
Also, a good, solid front kick is more impressive than an impromptu tornado or double roundhouse kick.

The Hanmadang draw for Saturday 12 November 2011 is now posted for members to see who is in their division for each event. The Hanmadang promises to be a great day. We envisage the tournament to run for 3 hours from 1pm to 4pm.

It has often been said that Martial Arts Tournaments Are not Martial Arts, however nothing could be further from the truth. Those who say Martial Arts tournaments are not Martial Arts do not understand the origin of the Martial Arts, or the many purposes that Martial Arts have in the development of the “total” person.
There are many aspects to the development of a Martial Arts person, as is the case in a person’s development in any of life’s pursuits. As with a child’s schooling, for example, it would not be complete to simply study English and Science without the study of Arithmetic. A well rounded academic program has many facets, as is the case with a well rounded Martial Arts program. Continue reading
